THESE ARE THE TREES

THESE ARE THE TREES

these are the trees
we planted as seedlings
forty years

ago

and are now as tall
as the towers
that fell

on 9/11.

these are the trees
hiding the house
up on

the hill
where the children
live

in fear and
terror
of the violence

inside.

too high up white flags
cannot be seen. the end

is inevitable.
